The OnePlus 5T may cost the same as its predecessor – $479

In recent weeks the steady drip of factoids about the OnePlus 5T has increased to a steady stream from both official and unofficial sources. We’ve seen the OnePlus CEO say that the OnePlus 5T won’t have wireless charging and implying that $600 would be “enough” to purchase the phone. The latest leak suggests that the OnePlus 5T may actually launch at the same price as its predecessor, the OnePlus 5.

According to confidential documentation seen by TechRadar, the OnePlus 5T will cost the same amount for businesses on the O2 network in the UK as the OnePlus 5 did earlier this year. One can extrapolate from this tidbit that the price for consumers will also remain the same, which means the 64GB OnePlus 5T could go on sale in the UK for £449 and $479 in the US. Stretching the logic a little further, the 128GB version could be priced around the £539 mark.

It’s a little unusual, OnePlus has consistently increased the price of each of its flagships by around 10%. In fact, most manufacturers increase the price of their flagships with each successive launch, with 2017 proving to be one of the most expensive years to buy a flagship phone. Just look at Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the Pixel 2 XL, and Apple’s iPhone X, all priced upwards of $849. If the leak is correct, it represents a refreshing change.

So, the price could stay the same as it was for the OnePlus 5, but what can we expect to see from the OnePlus 5T? Well, it definitely has an audio jack or courage port as it has recently been termed in some quarters. We are also expecting to see it launch with a 6-inch OLED display with 2160 x 1080 resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio, bringing it into line with the rest of 2017’s major flagships. It would appear that the fingerprint reader will move to the rear of the device (where it belongs) and that the handset should feature an all-metal construction.

Internally, most of the components should be the same as the OnePlus 5, ranging from the Snapdragon 835 processor, the 6GB/8GB RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage and a 3,450mAh battery. The OnePlus 5T should also launch running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. It’s believed that the phone will also boast an upgraded dual camera setup, possibly twin 20MP sensors, as teased on Twitter by Carl Pei, the OnePlus co-founder.

Everything will be revealed at the launch event on November 16 in Brooklyn, New York City with the handset due to go on sale a few days later on the 21st. How do you feel about OnePlus launching a second flagship phone in 2017?
